Manuel Perez Garcia is Associate Professor at the Department of International Politics, School of International Studies, Renmin University of China. Prof. Perez Garcia is the first (and so far only) ERC grantee to be based in China conducting as principal investigator the GECEM-679371 (Global Encounters between China and Europe). He is founder and director of the Global History Network (GHN) in China. He was postdoctoral fellow at Tsinghua University (2011-2013), and also invited discussant at the Tsinghua-Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He graduated at the Universidad de Murcia, Spain, majoring in History, then obtained his master and doctorate degree on Economic History at the European University Institute (Florence, Italy). He was visiting scholar at UCBerkeley, the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) and the Instituto de Investigaciones Dr. Jose Maria Luis Mora (Mexico), Peking University, University of Tokyo, among others. His primary field of research is the history of consumption and trade relations between Europe and China during the early modern period until today. His latest monograph is ‘Vicarious Consumers’: Trans-National Meetings between the West and East in the Mediterranean World (1730-1808), Ashgate: London, 2013. He has published several articles in outstanding international journals such as European Journal of Scientific Research, Journal of Family History or Histoire, Economie et Societe, Economic History Research, among others. He has also obtained the following academic awards and fellowships: Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico; UKNA-Marie Curie Actions, International Institute for Asian Studies, Leiden University; 52 Chinese Postdoctoral Science Foundation Grant; Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Tsinghua University; Fellowship on European Mobility in Asia; Full grant by the Spanish Government, Ministerio de Educacion y Ciencia; Research grant “Salvador Madariaga Awards” by the Spanish Government, M.A.E. (Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores); Full grant at University of California at Berkeley. Prof. Perez Garcia is permanent collaborator at CCTV News International Channel in the programs “Dialogue. Ideas Matter” and “Puntos de Vista”.
